What is a hallmark?

A hallmark tells us the amount of pure metal in an alloy, ie how much pure silver is within the silver jewellery. My fine silver pendants are 999 silver (99.9% pure, no other added metal within the alloy) and the chains and jump rings I use are 925 sterling silver (92.5 % silver and 7.5% copper).

It's a legal requirement for silver weighing over 7.78g to have a recognised UK hallmark. All of my current designs weigh under 7.78g, however hallmarking can be requested at an additional cost if this is something you would like. â€‹olive&stone is registered with the London Assay Office, where hallmarking began 700 years ago.  The hallmark will also display my initials so you know who it has been made by, and will feature the leopard face, which tells us that it has been stamped at the London office.
